Here is an article to help you troubleshoot most of the common issues on Zoom.

Introduction

In this article you will learn how to solve many of the common problems that happen on Zoom. We recommend reading through this BEFORE your coaching calls or any other calls you might have on Zoom so that you don’t have to worry about it when your call is happening. This will ensure that you don’t waste precious time from your calls, that you get the most out of your experience on Zoom, and that you can maximize your time with your coaches. This is for Zoom on laptops or computers, and not designed for iPads, tablets, phones, or mobile devices. Please do not show up to your coaching calls on any device other than a computer or laptop.


Turning On Your Camera

How To Turn Your Camera On

The following steps will help you turn your camera on and give you any troubleshooting tips you need if you can’t seem to get it to work.


Step 1

To turn on your camera so that you can show your face, just press the button that says “Start Video”. Once you do that, your face should appear and now your camera is turned on.


Step 2

Smile for the camera! Now your camera should be on with your face showing. At any time if you would like to turn off your camera, simply click the same button you used to turn it on in order to turn it off.


What to Do If Your Camera Won’t Turn On

If your camera still does not show your face then use the following steps to be able to update your camera settings.


Step 1

While you are on Zoom, click the tiny arrow that is pointing up next to the “Start Video” button.


Step 2

Click on “Video Settings” to access the Zoom settings.


Step 3

Click on the little drop down arrow pointing down right below where it says “Camera”. It may say “Same as System” or “Integrated Camera”.


Step 4

You can select whichever camera you want. If you have no external camera then just select the default camera, in this case it should say “Camera”.


Troubleshooting for Windows/PC Users

If Your Camera or Audio Still Won’t Turn On

The following steps will help you share your screen on your device. Please make sure that you close any windows or personal information that you do not want the other participants to see.

Step 1

Make sure Zoom is closed, then go to “Start” at the top of your computer screen.

Step 2

Go to “Settings”.

Step 3

Go to “Privacy”.

Step 4

On the left side menu, under “App Permissions”, click “Camera” and make sure it’s “On”.

Step 5

On the left side menu, under “App Permissions”, click “Microphone” and make sure it’s “On”. Then reopen Zoom and you should now have full access.

Troubleshooting for Mac Users

If Your Camera or Audio Still Won’t Turn On

Sometimes, the problem might not be Zoom at all. If you’re on a Mac, the webcam might be blocked. The following steps will show you how to fix this on your computer. You can correct this by checking your app permissions to make sure the Zoom app or your web browser can use your webcam.


Step 1

On the web specifically, you can also check this setting by restarting your call and making sure you press “Allow” or “OK” when prompted about the camera and mic access.

Step 2:

Click the Apple logo at the top left corner of your screen and click on

System Preferences”.


Step 3:

Click “Security & Privacy”.


Step 4:

Select the “Privacy” tab, and at the bottom-left corner of the “Security & Privacy” window, click the lock icon so that changes can be made.

Step 5:

Enter your OS administrator username and password, then click Unlock.

Step 6:

Click the permission that you need to change Camera, Microphone, Screen Recording, Files and Folders, or Accessibility.


Turning On Your Audio

How To Turn Your Audio On

The following steps will help you turn your audio on so that the other participants can hear you.

Step 1

Click the button where it says “Unmute”.

Step 2

Ask the other participant(s) if they can hear you because you should be unmuted now with your audio turned on. The button should now say “Mute” with no red line, so you should now be heard by everyone else when you speak.


Sharing Your Screen

How To Share Your Screen

The following steps will help you share your screen on your device. Please make sure that you close any windows or personal information that you do not want the other participants to see.

Step 1

Click on the green “Share Screen” button in the bottom middle of your screen in Zoom.

Step 2

Select the option that says “Desktop”.

Step 3

Once you have selected the Desktop option, click the blue “Share” button to share your screen with the other participants.

Step 4

Your screen should now be shared with the other participants. You should see a green banner that says, “You are screen sharing”. You should also notice a green border around the screen as well, this is a good sign that your screen is being shared. Ask the other participants if they can see your screen. Anything that is on your screen they can now see so be aware of any explicit or private information that is being displayed on your screen.

Step 5

When you are done sharing your screen, just press the red banner that says “Stop Share”. Other participants will no longer be able to view your screen.
