Overview

This guide explains how to find free stock images, add photos to your manuscript, and manage photo sizing for the 7-Day Publishing Challenge (7DPC).

Where to Find Free Stock Images

Recommended Free Stock Photo Websites

You can find free stock images from these trusted sources:

  • Pexels (pexels.com)

  • Pixabay (pixabay.com)

  • Unsplash (unsplash.com)

How to Download Free Stock Images

  1. Go to any of the recommended websites in your browser

  2. Type your search term in the search bar (example: "flowers")

  3. Browse the page of image results that appears

  4. Click on your preferred image(s)

  5. Click "Free Download" for each photo you want to use

  6. Images will automatically save to your Downloads folder

Using Personal Photos

If you want to use personal photos from your gallery:

  • Save them as JPG format for best resolution and KDP upload compatibility

  • Store them in your Downloads folder with your other images

How to Add Photos to Your Google Doc Manuscript

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Position your cursor at the exact point in your manuscript where you want to add the photo

  2. Click "Insert" at the top of your Google Doc page

  3. Hover your mouse over "Image" in the dropdown menu

  4. Click "Upload from computer"

  5. Select the photo you want from your Downloads folder

  6. Click "Open"

  7. Your image will now display within your manuscript

Adding Multiple Photos

  • Repeat the above process for each photo you want to add

  • Position each photo carefully before inserting

Photo Resizing Information

Important Limitation

Photo resizing is NOT available in Reedsy. There is no workaround for this limitation.

Best Practice for Resizing

To avoid time and frustration:

  • Resize all photos in your Google Doc BEFORE importing to Reedsy

  • Complete all photo sizing adjustments before moving to the next step

  • This prevents issues when importing to KDP later

Workflow Summary

Complete Process Order

  1. Find and download images from free stock sites or use personal JPG photos

  2. Add photos to Google Doc manuscript using the Insert method

  3. Resize photos in Google Doc as needed

  4. Import manuscript to Reedsy

  5. Subsequently import to KDP

Important Notes

  • All images must be saved to your Downloads folder for easy access

  • JPG format provides the best resolution for KDP uploads

  • Complete all photo editing in Google Docs before importing to Reedsy

  • As mentioned in Rasmus's video lessons, Reedsy does not support photo resizing
